ADVISORY – Be sure to consult a professional, being certain your furnace is safe to operate. Antiquated. damaged or improperly installed gas appliances could cause C.O. poison, fire and death!

Most Common Thermostat Problems:

  • Replace batteries and be sure that your heating or cooling mode switch did not get inadvertently disrupted by various persons who are residing in the home.
  • Be sure that your thermostat is in the “run mode” if you want to utilize “programming features.”
  • Be sure that your thermostat is in “hold mode” if you do not want the thermostat dictating & running , potentially cryptic and unintended programs.
  • Be sure that your clock on your thermostat is set correctly, is it AM or PM? A backwards clock will make your programming run askew.

Furnace Or Air Conditioner Problems:

  • Does your furnace or air conditioner have active power?
  • Check service switch on the furnace. Many times people will unknowingly disrupt this switch while cleaning or moving things around in the furnace room. This switch looks like the light switches on the walls of your home. This switch will usually be on the outside of the furnace in plain view, [silver box with a silver cover]. On rare occasions you might find this switch located on the wall appearing to be an actual light switch.
HELPFUL HINT: Always turn this switch off for three seconds then turn it back on. This will reset any error code that might have occurred, thereby getting things back on track and running smoothly again.
  • Check the “breaker panel” to be sure no switches have tripped. NOTE: A tripped breaker switch is not always discernible to the eye. You should always turn the switch to the off position and turn it back on again. If your air conditioner is not working check the “disconnect service switch” outside by the air conditioner unit. Check or replace fuses inside this switch.
HELPFUL HINT: Occasionally breaker switches for air conditioner units can be found, out of sight and out of mind with the homes outdoor electric meter.
  • CAUTION: Unless you are a skilled tradesman with some training or knowledge of electrical concepts and components, please do not go behind doors or panels intended for service professionals. Electricity can be dangerous. Further, you would not want to cause any damage to your equipment. “Call Now & Talk To A Professional, Owner answers all calls 801-427-9456”
  • Advanced Comprehensive Advice: Most modern furnaces will have diagnostic LED lights on the circuit boards… Consider there are many brands, makes & models of heating & cooling equipment on the market, these codes will migrate across various patterns of [“Morse Coded Style Language”], depending on which brand or particular model of equipment these codes are connected to … Descriptions of these “Err Codes” will be translated on the equipment’s data spec sheets… This is where things get a little tricky being that these codes are not always “Absolute Answers,” rather these codes can be a good place to start, helpful clues for a trained technician to begin our investigations… We Advise: Seek professional help, Owner answers all calls 801-427-9456
  • *Helpful Hint While observing err codes on the circuit board, search for a burnt fuse on the mentioned board… Replace fuse & reset power…. Remember place furnace doors back on the unit to engage power [door switch]…. Call Now & Talk To A Professional, Owner answers all calls 801-427-9456

High Efficient Furnaces:

  • CONSIDER: Exhaust Venting on high efficient furnaces, [i.e. condensing gas furnaces], the ones with plastic PVC exhaust piping, as apposed to steal [B/vent] style exhaust piping… These pipes create a lot of problems for property owners when they get plugged up with debris, [birds, bees nests etc]… As well, excessive condensation can be a problem, be sure your PVC exhaust piping has adequate slope so that puddles of accumulated water [condensation] will not restrict venting, be sure the termination point for this piping located on your roof or side of your home is not obstructed.

Freezing Air Conditioner Problems:

  • Does your furnace and air conditioner have adequate air flow? Is the filter dirty? Do you see ice on the refrigeration piping? Examine piping at location of the outdoor air conditioner unit and indoor coil. Do you see ice, frost or indications of ice melting in or around the furnace? IF YES: This is indicative of air flow problems.
  • Try the simple things first. Most often the furnace is dirty. Replace the filter and allow ample time for all the accumulated ice to melt, talking about internal ice inside the coil. This can be a large chunk of ice inside an insulated box deep inside the HVAC system so this may take several hours. Clean up all the water that might be getting inside the furnace potentially causing more problems. After all the ice has melted, after air flow has been restored. Install a new furnace filter, then turn on the air conditioner. Monitor the system closely to be sure that ice doesn’t persist. “Call Now & Talk To A Professional, Owner answers all calls 801-427-9456”

General Tips For Keeping Your Air Conditioner & Furnace Running Smoothly:

  • Change filter often, every 30 days during peak seasons.
  • Watch for signs of condensation leakage and water in or around the furnace. Plugged or leaky condensation lines or cracked condensation pans will allow water inside the furnace, which will ruin your system in rapid order. You want to resolve these things before the damage gets worse.
  • Keep foliage and debris away from your air conditioner; your AC unit must be able to breath.
  • Have an HVAC professional examine your furnace filter accommodations and your ducting to ensure that you have adequate air flow.
