One of the great many questions of our modern world, one that’s been perplexing & testing morals of good men since the introduction of Taxes so many years ago. My own concerns surrounding this dis-favorable topic would be paying too much taxes [Boo, Whaaa!!!]… Or worse, paying too little taxes, thereby inviting the Pesky Tax Man into our offices to investigate our financial records [ekes, Yikes!!]…
Our most recent dilemma occurred when we hired a professional contractor to provide some work on our own property… The preliminary negotiations and written proposal produced by the contractor stated that our cost’s would be $3,000 in totality… Imagine our disdain when the work was completed, and the irritating invoice announces a belated “Tax Bill”,, [$200 additional dollars to pay these frightful tax men]… Quite frankly, I was much more annoyed by the UN-named contractors lack of disclosure on this subject during preliminary negotiations. What is a moral & thoughtful person supposed to do now ? ! ? !..

Thank you for the wonderful work that you provided on our property… We have some concerns with your invoicing & billing practices in relation to the “Tax Bill”… Understand, we are pretty sure that your company accrues exorbitant over-head costs, plus all the labor associated with these kinds of jobs, plus we expect that your company would be making a fitting profit on this kind of work ? ! ? ! ?
CONSIDER: We must conclude that your materials costs are only a “Portion” of your accumulative costs… We just cant wrap our moral, thoughtful minds around paying taxes on all your overhead & labor costs… Worse, why must we pay taxes on your companies profit margin… Why would “WE” as good moral thoughtful Americanized business owners ever volunteer to pay the government any more taxes than would be our lawful due… Are we missing something ! ? ! ?…
Consider, we do not charge our customers taxes on our projects,,, perhaps we should charge taxes on the materials we use, as I know we certainly do pay taxes on materials… I think these cost should be included in the sales persons proposals…… You said your company just likes to “Roll It All Up” into a bigger belated number, then charge sales tax on these higher sums ! ? ! ? I say lets UN-roll it and pay taxes on the materials only… QUITE FRANKLY [dear sir]: We feel that your company should not be doing business this way… If your company wants to pay taxes on these higher inflated numbers, then we believe you should be disclosing this when you write up your proposals…
IN CLOSING [Dear Sir], we do NOT intend to put you on the “Hot-Seat”,, ultimately we might choose to pay whatever costs that your company feels is due. And we intend for our concerns to meet you in “Good Fun & Friendly Quip”… We only ask, that you forward our concerns to your accounting department, lets request assistance with these increased costs. perhaps your people may relent on this apparent miss-appropriated, non disclosed fee which seems to be masquerading as a sales tax.
